Xanluna! goes 960

Xanluna! Keep it Simple

Troy Martin Chief EditorIf you follow trends in CMS you know that there is a big debate going on right now around Flash versus HTML5. This new standard will basically put flash out of business and Adobe will lose a good chunk of revenue. I should mention it will kill our gallery as it is based on Flash too. So it is understandable that Adobe is not to happy. But change is inevitable especially where technology and software design is concerned. Even Adobe has changed the game on us a few times like introducing Adobe Air.

This constant battle between Microsoft, Apple and Adobe along with others will really play out in the hands of the developers and the standards that they adopt. Because they are the ones that matter in web design. If the developers of the sites don’t use a product or are not quick to embrace the technology it will die. The simple process of evolution.

Here at Xanluna! we have been in a quandary for some time around what template base to standardize on. There are so many choice designs without writing the core our selves it has been difficult to decide. Hopefully we are going in the right direction now that we are backing the 960 grid system.

Uniformity and structure are very important when standing up a web address. With millions of sites on the net keeping a solid foot hold on traffic can be a daunting headache. Fortunately for Xanluna! we are a young company and have many more options then one of those fortune 500 firms that have well established brands.

Of course we strive to one day be as big as Adobe or Microsoft but we don’t hold our breath. We at this point just want to do a good job with presenting our little corner of the web and keeping our followers happy.

Our focus has been on education and relaying interesting stories that fit into our knowledge base. We attempt to keep the crap out. We are neutral on social networks and are slow to adopt some of the more trendy functionality. Yes we are now on Twitter and Facebook and yes we provide social network linking. But we don’t broadcast our services there.

We don’t pretend to be all things to all people. We limit our advertising to a select few and that is by design. We want to make sure the web does not go the way of the television where you see more commercials for crap you don’t need then watching the program you intended. Sure we would like to see a steady revenue stream, who wouldn’t. But again that is not our focus. That is not why we are here!

Xanluna! is about choice and sometimes making the hard choice is better then no choice at all. We value what are readers tell us. We listen to constructive criticism and we change. We adapt to keep it fresh and to keep it simple.

For now the change to 960 grid is our focus. We will continue to tweak the site making adjustments as we go and changes that keep things fresh.

Thank you for sharing the ride with us.
